The Government led by Alkatiri is certainly not a depotic one. Within two years of its governance it had promoted extensively equality and human rights through its, office of the Advisor for Human Rights, office of the Advisor of Promotion of Equality. Various conventions promoting human rights and equality were signed by the Government. There is willingness in its approach to these fundamental issues.
The Constitution has protected a legitimate Parliament, Government and Prime Minister from threats of dismissal by the President.
Imagine a President dismissing the Parliament which is representative of all people. I magine the President freely sacking Prime Ministers without a legal basis.
In this crisis it has been a formidable document in the defence of a possible over use of power by the President.
Be assured that this constitution may have saved us from tyranny itself.

The problem is not the Constitution, the problem is the Individuals and Groups being unconstitutional in their behaviour.
I believe the Constitution has proven itself against possible breaches and passed the test during this crisis.
What has happened is the PR who you consider to be the symbol of the state was unable to remove the Government or sack a legitimate Prime Minister and dissolve the Parliament.
This is a testament to a constitution which has not allowed anyone to be above the law when it comes to the removal of legitimate representatives and institutions.
So how did the PR manage to at least achieve the resignation of the Prime Minister without breaching the constitution? At first it was held that the President was to sack the Prime Minster and dismiss the Parliament which would have had its repercussions and it would have set off a Constitutional crisis. The answer to the question is that it took a deviously schemed threat for the resignation of the Prime Minister That threat was that if the Prime Minister did not resign then the PR would resign. This scenario could of triggered would cause further instability.
The Prime Minister in his resignation quite rightly said that he resigned so that the PR would not resign.
What is important is that this Constitution has protected the most sacred of all democratic principles that is the right of the people to be represented by choice not by force.
If one day an opposition party was to be in power it would rest assure that the only way to be removed is that the people chooses to vote them out during free and fair elections.

O problema não é a Constituição, o problema é haver indivíduos e grupos com comportamento inconstitucional.
Acredito que a Constituição provou ser capaz de evitar rupturas e passou o teste nesta crise.
O que tem acontecido é que o PR que é considerado o símbolo do Estado, não teve a capacidade para remover o governo ou despedir um Primeiro-Ministro legítimo e dissolver o Parlamento.
Este é um testemunho para uma constituição que não tem permitido que alguém esteja acima da lei quando quer a remoção de representantes e instituições legítimos.
Então como é que o PR conseguiu ao menos obter a resignação do Primeiro-Ministro sem romper com a constituição? Primeiro constou-se que o Presidente queria despedir o Primeiro-Ministro e dissolver o Parlamento o que teria tido repercussões e desencadeado uma crise Constitucional. A resposta à questão para a resignação do Primeiro-Ministro é que tomou a forma duma ameaça inviamente organizada. A ameaça foi que se o Primeiro-Ministro não resignasse, então resignaria o PR. Este cenário desencadearia ainda mais instabilidade.
O Primeiro-Ministro na sua resignação, disse, e muito bem, que resignaria para que o PR não resignasse.
O que é importante é que esta Constituição protegeu o mais sagrado de todos os princípios democráticos, que é o direito do povo estar representado por escolha e não pela força.
Se um dia um partido da oposição estiver no poder, poderá ficar descansado que a única maneira de o remover é que o povo escolha removê-lo em eleições livres e justas.
Uma Constituição muito bem feita.
