On 3 Sept 2006, the following was reported on ABC Radio Australia:
________________________________

Also, Ms Sword Gusmao says the Australian media has incorrectly portrayed the alleged instigator of unrest in East Timor, Major Alfredo Reinado, as a rebel.

She says she hopes Major Reinado thinks about the consequences his actions could have on efforts to return Dili to peace following the recent escalation of violence.

"He has been portrayed somewhat incorrectly in the Australian media as being a renegade, a rebel," she said.

"I think it's important to remember that when he defected from the military police, it was as a protest action against what he saw as terrible violations committed by our armed forces."

Does one really needs to seriously ask why they were hell bent on giving so much public support and protection to Alfredo? No...on e doesn't. Now we know.

Alfredo was "ordered and created" by her husband. She needs to be scrutinised for her role including her interviews where she called upon Alkatiri to resign. Or more perhaps? She has already once admitted she was a spy against the Indonesians. Now who is she spying for? Well.... the truth will come out and we will see soon enough.

But then again, they have well and truly used Alfredo to get what and where they wanted and will not be defending him any more in the manner they once did.

Isn't it wonderful when the rattle snakes turn on one another?

________________________________

UN, ETimor police arrest 28 over possible human trafficking

3.01.2008

DILI (AFP) — UN and East Timorese police have arrested 28 foreign nationals as part of investigations into illegal immigration and possible human trafficking, the UN mission here said Thursday.

Officers raided two bars in the East Timorese capital Dili on Wednesday, the mission said in a statement.

At one bar, eight females suspected of involvement in sex work were arrested "for identification purposes, in connection with investigations into illegal immigration and possible human trafficking," it said.

At a second bar, 13 women and seven men, all foreign nationals, were arrested "for identification purposes related to investigations into the trafficking of women."

A UN official said the mission was not at liberty to say where the 28 were from as police were still trying to confirm all of their identities.

A US State Department 2007 report said that the half-island nation was a destination country for women trafficked from China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

East Timor is one of the world's poorest nations. International peacekeepers are on patrol here following unrest triggered by factional fighting among security forces in 2006. UN police are also assisting in providing security.

Police Conduct Operation Against Drugs and Trafficking of Women in Dili

UNMIT Press Release - 3 January 2007
3 January 2008

Dili, Timor-Leste – On the evening of Wednesday 2 January, the UN Police (UNPol) Drug Taskforce, Dili District Police, and the Timorese National Police (PNTL) raided two bars in Dili as part of a successful operation to crackdown on activities related to illegal immigration, the sale of drugs, and possible human trafficking.

At the Mona Lisa Bar, police found evidence of drug usage and identified eight females who were suspected of involvement in prostitution. All eight were arrested for identification purposes, in connection with investigations into illegal immigration and possible human trafficking.

At the Moon Bar, 13 women and seven men, all foreign nationals, were arrested for identification purposes related to investigations into the trafficking of women. The managers of both bars were among the arrested.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) in Timor-Leste, Dr. Atul Khare, congratulated UNPol and the PNTL for the operation:

“A crucial part of UNMIT’s mandate is to ensure public security and support the Government in the consolidation of stability and the enhancement of a culture of democratic governance,” SRSG Khare said. “Accordingly, we will not allow such activities to flourish.”

Many of the arrested women are thought to have entered the country illegally and police recovered evidence of forged or altered identification documents. Police teams are working in close collaboration with the Immigration Service to process the detainees through the criminal justice system.

Shots fired to disperse brawling gangsFrom correspondents in Dili

January 03, 2008 08:33pm
Article from: Agence France-Presse

EAST Timorese and UN police fired warning shots into the air to disperse hundreds of brawling gang members in the capital.

The fight was apparently triggered by the murders of two young gang members during New Year's celebrations earlier this week.

About 300 people took to the streets for the fight, which resulted in the deployment of a helicopter crewed by international peacekeepers, according to a correspondent for press agency AFP.

"We had no choice but to launch warning shots as they refused to disperse," an East Timor policeman said. There were no reported casualties.

Meanwhile, UN police said that a fight in the country's western-central district Ermera on Wednesday led to the windows of a UN police vehicle being smashed and one man injured.

Two fighting groups were dispersed but later gathered again and threw stones at a police station.

Tiny East Timor remains in a fragile state after it descended into chaos in April and May 2006, when security force factions waged battle on the streets, leaving at least 37 people dead.

International peacekeepers and UN police were despatched to maintain security.

President Jose Ramos-Horta has said he wants Australian-led peacekeepers to stay until the end of this year at least and the UN, with its 1700 police, should remain until 2011.

ENTREVISTA ALFREDO REINADO
Distrito Ermera, Timor-Leste, Dezembro 2007

About the ultimatum

I'm a person that never afraid of anyone. Therefore, they can make any ultimatum they wanted to, against me. But we must be aware and careful that this kind of threat can turn against us.

I'm doing my best to balance my every words spoken that's why everthing still very calm. Becareful with the third party that can use this ultimatum for their own interest. This ultimatum is not a new thing for us, everthing they have done to take our life, they've done it.

Killing us, they've done it, military operation against us, the've also done it.But here we are, we are still alive. We are not afraid of any intimidation. All men under my command never afraid of anything or any intimidation made against them. We just don't want things to turn bad because we love our people and nation, that's why we still have stability till this moment.

I tell you it's better for Xanana not to talk to much or made any threat against us, because for me it's bullshit (gertak sambal-bahasa). This kind of bullshit intimidation we've already experienced it since the indonesian time, therefore it's like young people say "you don't get me".

We are not afraid, if they want to implement it we are ready in 24 hours time. But they must bear in mind that any wrong speech or decision made against us can lead to the downfall of this government. Be very careful about everthings. We are not politician, but it's the political interests and politicians that will kill and overthrow each others, not us. We want to safeguard this nation, its security and stability. You see, until now our region is very safe, nothing bad is happening here, one can move freely, not like in other place where there is no stability at all.

Therefore, Xanana dont make to much propagandas and bullshit calling us liars, turning arround everthing and anything, saying lie such as he knows me very well since my childhood. The first time I met Xanana, face to face, was in 2001 in Aileu acountounament. In my life I'm not a dog or a pet that one raises so that it can always be at anytime by his side or obey his orders.

I'm not like that, Alfredo is not like that. There is no story about Alfredo that Xanana can tell, none.

Therefore don't wondering arround and telling lies that he met me many times or he knows me very well, that is bullshit. In front of UN people, I always say that I don't adore nor have any sympathy on him, I respect him because of the values and strugles he made to my country. But Xanana shall never forget that it's not just him the one voted for the independence of this country, or it's not by guns or fire arms that this country won its freedom. He shall not forget about it. Therefore don't tell old story of his 20 years of struggle in here.

I was also in the jungle like him, but not just as lucky as him. I do also suffer from the consequences of war created by them in that time. It's better for him not to talk about it, otherwise i can tell many thing about this. If they (the leaders) made thing correctly and properly in the past governance, we wouldn't be like this today. He assumed and represented the presidency and if he did thing correctly the crisis wouldn't have taken place. I can say, with all due repect to Xanana, I give my testimony as a witness, that Xanana is the main author of this crisis, he can not lie or deny about this. He will try anyhing or make any manouver to save himself, but he really can not succeed. If he is truly a good hero, as he said, and a great freedom fighter for 20 years in the jungle, why cann't he tell about the reality and thruth instead of hidding from it. Many things will happen backstage and he knows about that, it's his responsability and his links.

He call us bad people, but it's him the that created us, turned us to be like this, he is author of the petition. He was behind all of this. If he was a good president at that time, when the military crisis errupted, as a supreme commander where was his responsability??? none. Now as a Prime Minister, he changes the speech and "wash his hand".

He turns against us, those ordered and created by him. It's with his support that the petition exists in the first place, it's his irresponsible speeches to the medias that made people to be fighting and killing each others until this moment and he knows many more things, we will talk about this.

He shouldn't call me liar. I'm gentleman, I'm ready to have at any time an open debate with him in public.......

ENTREVISTA ALFREDO REINADO - tradução parcial (português)

Distrito Ermera, Timor-Leste, Dezembro 2007

(kona ba ultimatu)

Acerca do ultimato

Ele nunca me devia chamar mentiroso.
