World Vision staff want to stay in Dili

Staff from aid agency World Vision say they do not want to be evacuated from East Timor if the situation deteriorates.

The staff were forced to move from their compound in Dili yesterday because of safety concerns.

But Australian project officer, Fiona Hamilton, says it is feared more than 20,000 people have been displaced by the violence and they want to stay and help.

"It's preferable that we aren't because we want to be available to assist the displaced people to provide humanitarian response ... we prefer not to be evacuated," she said."
