GOVERNANCE PROBLEM
Australian Prime Minister John Howard was critical of the way East Timor has been run.
"There is a significant governance problem inside East Timor. There's no point in beating about the bush, the country has not been well governed," he told Australian Radio on Friday.
The truth and friendship commission's Soares said: "The parliament plans to convene today to decide further steps that need to be taken by the president and the prime minister.""

The campaign to oust the democraticly elected Timor-Leste government is underway in Australia. John Howard has fired the first shot.
I say this to John Howard: Maybe he should think about giving to Timor-Leste what rightfully belongs to Timor-Leste under the international law!!! Australia exploited more than US$2 Billion in revenues from the Timor Gap between 1999 and 2004 (Laminaria and Coralina oil fields). John Howard withdrew Australia from the international court on the eve of Timor-Leste gaining its sovereignty in 2002, denying the Timor-Leste the only avenue to resolve the maritime border between the two countries fairly. Australia bullied Timor-Leste into accepting on 50% of what rightfully belonged to it under international law in the Greater Sunrise negotiations.
The people of Timor-Leste inherited a country literally from the ashes after 1999. The US$2 Billion that Australia robbed from Timor-Leste's oil resources would have made many differences. Instead, faced with a poor, conflict torn neighbour, Australia became a bully instead and denied Timor-Leste precious funds which would have placed the country on a good footing.
Timor-Leste is moving towards a path of self reliance despite various setbacks, despite Australia's bullying behaviour. But today John Howard is only too happy to see Timor-Leste on its knees.
But Timor-Leste will raiseonce again. And this time she will be stronger. John Howard is on his way out soon. Timor-Leste will contiue to stand and the East Timorese will soon rub it on John Howard's face.

A cada dia que passa as coisas começam a ficar mais claras. Os nossos "amigos" australianos já nem disfarçam.
Mais uma vez o nosso povo paga com o seu sangue o interesse do governo australiano pelo nosso petróleo.
Tradução para português das declarações do PM australiano: "Olhem que nós viemos dar uma mãozinha mas não pensem que há almoços grátis!... Vejam se se vêm livres do Mari porque ele é um mau governante e se ele não for embora vamos nós e vocês que se f... Os indonésios não estiveram para vos aturar e nós também não!"
Trata-se de uma tradução muito livre, claro... :-)
O Howard tem razão. Para ele, o bom governo era aquele que lá esteve 24 anos, dos bapas, que lhe ofereceram o petróleo e até lhe lambiam o cu.
