Segurança da cadeia estava a cargo das forças internacionais - PM
Díli, 01 Set (Lusa) - A segurança da cadeia de Becora, em Díli, de onde quarta-feira se evadiram 57 reclusos entre os quais o major Alfredo Reinado, estava a cargo das forças internacionais, disse hoje à agência Lusa o primeiro-ministro, José Ramos-Horta.
A segurança em Timor-Leste está a cargo desde o dia 25 de Agosto das forças internacionais e da polícia das Nações Unidas, explicou o governante.
"A única coisa que posso dizer é que a cadeia e outras posições críticas na cidade de Díli são da responsabilidade das forças internacionais", afirmou.
Com esta afirmação Ramos-Horta remeteu para as forças australianas e neozelandesas, sob comando da Austrália, a responsabilidade pela quebra de segurança que permitiu que 57 reclusos, entre os quais o major Alfredo Reinado, saíssem pela porta principal da cadeia de Becora na quarta-feira.
Na altura da evasão, o presídio tinha cerca de 200 detidos e 60 guardas desarmados no seu interior.
As afirmações de Ramos-Horta também contradizem o ministro da Defesa da Nova Zelândia, que na quinta-feira negou qualquer responsabilidade dos militares neozelandeses na segurança da prisão de Becora, afirmando que cabia ao Governo de Díli a vigilância das prisões timorenses.
"A Nova Zelândia e a força multinacional não são, nem nunca foram, responsáveis pelas prisões em Timor-Leste ou pela sua segurança. Essa é uma responsabilidade apenas do Ministério da Justiça de Timor-Leste", afirmou Phil Goff, em comunicado onde também admite ter responsabilidade no patrulhamento na bairro de Becora.
A fuga de reclusos da cadeia de Becora, em Díli, envolveu 16 ex-membros das forças armadas timorenses e pelo menos cinco condenados por homicídio.
Alfredo Reinado e cerca de 20 dos seus homens estavam detidos desde 25 de Julho, por posse de material de guerra encontrado numa operação de rotina da GNR em três casas, uma delas, segundo o major, atribuída por Xanana Gusmão.
A detenção foi feita ao abrigo do Protocolo bilateral entre Timor-Leste e a Austrália, no âmbito das medidas de emergência que estavam em vigor no país desde 30 de Maio, decretadas por Xanana Gusmão.
O major Alfredo Reinado abandonou no início de Maio a cadeia de comando das forças armadas timorenses e foi um dos principais intervenientes na crise político-militar que levou as autoridades de Timor-Leste a pedir ajuda externa para tentar ultrapassar a situação de instabilidade e violência no país, que levou à demissão do antigo primeiro-ministro Mari Alkatiri.

We all may still reccal Ben Moxham work ´Taming the "Banana Republic" The United States in East Timor´. Many people have tried to point to owr noses who we are, what we do, what we havent done, and what we suppose to, but unfortunately, the comunist and authoritarian ideology have been planted too strong even into the deepest brain of any single East Timorese, that almost all the East Timorese want to live and even want to live on only lies, ilusions, alusions and the worst of all accept all the empty propagandas of old communist and authoritarian style. The accusation of even Prime Minister Ramos Horta to international forces in East Timor for the escape of Mr. Reinado, is just another way of trying to alwys find a scapegoat for what ever incidents happened in East Timor.
Whay should we always find scapegoats. Isn´t it enough during almost 25 years of Indonesian occupation to always blame Indonesian troops for any single incident in East Timor? Why should we point our fingers to international forces for not guarding the prison of Becora? Why should they be blamed? Why shouln´t we blame ourself for being so incapable of running a country?
Ben Moxham might be right in saying that East Timor is no more than a Banana Republic led by monkeys who are more happy to mimick and steal bananas rather than acting as a real man who acts on his/her own feet and tell no lies to his own people, and most of all point no fingers at no one, but himself/herself.
Basilio Araujo
Mr Basilio Araujo, we are not so incapable of running our country! Mari Alkatiri was doing just that when he was ousted in a very undemocratic way! Who was behind the ousting? Only time will tell us!
A complement of that ousting was the planned disbandement of the Timorese Police and other security forces! Another complement was to call foreign troops to mantain and uphold security in East Timor! Was not the security at Becora prison part of their duties! If not, what are they doing in East Timor? Not much, I believe, as wild youths still run amok, burning what is still available, and stoning the defenceless!
I sincerely believe that East Timorese can govern East Timor, but I also believe that foreign powers do not want that to happen! They want a puppet government, a yes sir government!
This scenario is not new! Ask the Venezuelans, ask the Mexicans, the Iraquis, the Solomons and now you can ask Xanana and Ramos Horta.

I remember a Basilio Araujo, once. He was an ardent supporter of Timors integration to Indonesia. Anyway that is another story (another failed opportunist).
The Timorese “question”, which Basilio points out is by far more complex than what is led to believe. It is easy to point the finger, I believe so, as it is easier to lay the blame on others. If events were spontaneous I would believe your questions raised are relevant, but all indications suggest that the crisis was an orchestrated event, which in the short term will be is a tragedy but in the long term there are lessons to be learnt here specially when it comes to trust.
. Like in 1999 we knew what was happening and we knew what the outcome will be, in our darkest days we overcame. Let me point out that in 1999, Timor was in a worse climate. Like the events of 1999 we will once more overcome. In Timor I will let Basilio know if he doesn’t know already, Timorese know and understand full well what is happening.
It is not a spontaneous or anarchic state of events occurring in Timor Leste as a result of Governmental incompetence; let me make it clear it is as Mari pointed out a coup d’eta to remove a competent Government. There is no point hiding what is really happening in Timor Leste.
There is a concerted effort from various key players and institutions in Timorese society that includes former militiamen, integrationist (well I let you watch the Dateline report) who to no surprise do not want the betterment of Timor Leste. There are other influential people amongst these but I wanted to raise the fact that people like the former integrationist like Basilio Araujo (unfortunately he shares the same name with you) would love to see a Timorese that is close to a failed state.
Let me point out that anyone wanting a failed state Timor will not succeed, or anyone wanting to obtain power outside the realms of the democratic systems in place will also not succeed. We have been resilient during the past 25 years of Indonesian occupancy and have over come greater challenges and opportunist the likes the Basilio the integrationist.
Dili is in chaos, the whole of Timor remains silent, but in time the recent unfortunate state of events will be resolved. The perpetrators of the crisis will become public, I am sure this will happen in earnest.
O PM Ramos-Horta vai apresentar uma carta de protesto ao Tiri. Passou-lhe quase toda aequipa mas nao incluiu o Ze Cinico, o mais qualificado deles todos. Que verbonha para a Fretilin ter gente deste calibre.
