The message they wrote for Mr. Howard said “We Refuse Australia Interference to our Domestic Politics” and “John Howard go to hell with your rachist (sic) policy”.
The youth involved unfurled the banner on the roadside as Prime Minister Howard and his delegation passed through preparing to return to Australia at 3o`clock yesterday afternoon.
Prime Minister John Howard and his wife Janette, other member of the delegation, National and International police were able to see the words on the banner.
A source told this newspaper that he was not happy with the manner in which Howard suddenly and without much notice visited Timor-Leste. He said that PM Howard should recognize that Timor-Leste is an independent sovereign nation, and as such he should give notice to the constitutional heads of the nation. According to our source’s information, he had also heard that the national parliament was not aware of the visit plans by PM Howard.
