My comments on PM Ramos-Horta being stuck on the border:
This thing about the PM taking humanitarian aid to the people of Oecusse is nothing more than a PR exercise by the Ramos-Horta himself. A PM of a country, a leader, taking the arduouse journey and the long route to feed his people on the verge of starvation in an isolated enclave. Wow! A hero, a leader indeed!
But his incompetence, his lack of vision and his arrogance made sure the plan backfired. There is nothing more stupid than a PM of a sovereign country being held up at the border! Or maybe it's time to fire his PR officers? This is a classic public relations disaster.
I am sure that he could have used a UN chopper to take all these goods to Oecusse. And what happened to that Dili/Oecusse ferry? Why not just charter this boat? It could take in a lot more load and would get to Oecusse faster. Any of these options is more efficient and cost saving not to mention the security concerns involved. Who can garantee that the ex-militias or anyone at all in West Timor wouldn't raid the PM's convoy? A prime minister, a noble laureate, an enemy to the pro-Indonesia East Timorese, what bigger prize can anyone hope for? And this time presented to them effortlessly? Ridiculous!
Seriously, does the PM of that sovereign country really need to be in that convoy? How ridicolous.
But what can I say? This is a Banana Republic and all thanks to Xanana Banana Gusmao. I hope he leaves politics once and for all and this time stick to farming and selling pumpkins for good. Ramos-Horta can sell his pumpkins abroad. Otherwise Timor will jump from Banana Republic to a Pumpkin Republic.

Esta coisa do PM ir levar ajuda humanitário às pessoas de Oecusse nada mais é do que um exercício de Relações Públicas do próprio Ramos-Horta. Um PM de um país, um líder, fazer uma dura jornada e o longo caminho para alimentar a sua gente à beira da morte provocada pela fome num enclave isolado. Uau! Um herói, um líder de verdade!
Mas a sua incompetência, a sua falta de visão e a sua arrogância garantiram que o plano estourasse antes do tempo. Não há nada mais estúpido que um PM de um país soberano ficar retido na fronteira! Ou talvez é tempo de despedir os seus funcionários de Relações Públicas? Este é um desastre clássico de Relações Públicas.
Tenho a certeza que podia ter usado um helicóptero da ONU para levar todos os bens para Oecusse. E o que é que aconteceu ao ferry Dili/Oecusse? Porque não simplesmente usar este barco? Podia levar mais carga e chegar mais depressa a Oecusse. Qualquer uma destas opções é mais eficiente e barata, já para nem mencionar as preocupações de segurança envolvidas. Quem podia garantir que ex-milícias ou qualquer pessoa do Oeste de Timor não atacariam a escolta do PM? Um primeiro-ministro, um laureado do Nobel, um inimigo dos Timorenses pró- Indonésia, que melhor troféu podiam esperar ter? E desta vez presenteado sem esforço? Ridículo!
A sério, precisava o PM desse país soberano realmente de estar nesse destacamento? Quão ridículo.
Que mais posso dizer? Esta é uma República das Bananas e tudo graças ao Xanana Banana Gusmão. Tenho esperança que saia da política de uma vez por todas e que desta vez se dedique à agricultura e a vender abóboras para sempre. O Ramos-Horta pode vender as suas abóboras no estrangeiro. De outra maneira Timor saltará da República das Bananas para uma República das Abóboras.
Sometimes when I read these comments, it makes me laugh because every body is trying to be an expert …..let’s be realistic.
Trip to Oecusse
Please note that all the documents for the trip were prepared by the protocol section not by the PM himself. Imagine if the PM has to taking care these documents by himself, what will happen to his work? What the protocol staffs are doing in the office?
The incompetence lies at the staffs that were dealing with these documents. And note that it happens in almost all the Ministries.
Why we have these kinds of people at the Ministries? Well, during the recruitment, as long as you are a Fretelin member, then you are entitling to a job position no matter what level of education you have.
This is another example of mistake done by the first government lead by Mari and his cronies.
Is he (Mari) incompetent? No, certainly not, he has done well in economy and other areas but he has believed or relied to much in his incompetence cronies which nota bene have the Indonesian style “ Asal Bapak senang” – We give you comments as per your desire sir no matter is true or not, no matter what is the impact later on, as long as we have money we will give you good information only.
Is Ramos Horta lack of Vision?
I don’t think so! If he is, then, all the negotiation in overseas during the struggle have failed. He has a vision, that’s why among those leader in overseas such as Alkatiri, Joao Carascalao, etc, Ramos Horta was well known in Timor-Leste during the struggle. His reputation has preceded him in Timor-Leste and Indonesia. (Indonesia - when was study and involve in clandestine there).

This is a good question but his not ridiculous. If he makes this decision it is because he has an aim / objective in this trip.
Let’s be realistic and help this country, that’s what the Timorese need.
Horta just wanted to score cheap political points (why not he is a politician)with the trip to OeCussi. I doubt the people of OeCussi were at the forefront of his mind.
I wouldnt blame the staff, Horta should of been more meticulous.
With the staff having attained their jobs because they were sympathetic to FRETILIN, you are being ignorant of the fact that a lot positions including senior positions are staffed by individuals who are "independents", or affiliated with other political parties (PD, PSD)in fact a few were criticised for being integrationists.
What you are being most ignorant about is the fact that most individuals who are sympathetic to other political parties tend to prefer jobs in international development agencies, the UN agencies, NGO's, Diplomatic missions, where the money is substantially better and where they can criticise the work of the government (FRETILIN) to the outside world.
Well, this is the fact that who wants to get the job has to be Fretelin. Mostly have pass the test due to this issue.
You are the one of being ignorant in belive all the false comments, when I, I know it due to friends of mine that have face this issue during the recruitment. Some have pass due to admit of being a Fretelin member (in fact he is not) and some not since we said that he was not a Fretelin member.
