O brigadeiro australiano é de poucas palavras e não tem dado nas vistas como os comandantes das tropas da Austrália que anteriormente ficaram deslumbrados com os repórteres fotográficos e os jornalistas. O sujeito é aparentemente pacato, reservado, misterioso e certamente por isso foi escolhido para assumir as funções nesta fase do processo de “pacificação” da sociedade timorense.
Ai de nós que não sejamos pacíficos, atentos, venerandos e obrigados aos Golias australianos que põem e dispõem neste país que há muito dizem ser o seu quintal das traseiras – coisa que eu não entendia e que só agora estou começando a entender.
Declarou o brigadeiro Hutcheson que as tropas australianas vão continuar por cá, que continuarão com a sua “missão para ajudar o povo de Timor”.
Disse ainda que negava que seus homens tenham empregue a violência contra civis inocentes e que “as acusações são totalmente falsas e decepcionantes, por não termos possibilidade de respondermos”.
Este brigadeiro, se não estudou comédia anda lá por perto. Se não acabar a carreira em político mentiroso, que muito promete e tudo faz ao contrário, frustrará expectativas. Mas que mentiroso!
Mesmo aqui neste texto, transcrito de uma notícia da EFE, entre aspas, o brigadeiro tem possibilidade de responder e responde que não tem possibilidade de responder? Mas ele está a responder!
Ou o brigadeiro quereria responder “à homem”, dando uma enorme surra aos que acusam os militares australianos de sevícias e assassinatos em Timor-Leste? Considera o brigadeiro que aquilo que os seus militares fizeram, esta semana, ao segurança timorense, que no Parlamento mostrou a chagas da pancadaria que os seus “valentes guerreiros” lhe deram, é mentira? Foram só umas festinhas?
Com arrogância, o brigadeiro afirma que vão continuar por cá a ajudar o povo timorense. Argumentos de bom mentiroso.
É aqui que se nota a veia política deste militar. Melhor mentiroso que um político só outro político. Ajudar? Ajudar o povo de Timor? Mas que ajuda tem prestado o exército australiano ao povo de Timor-Leste?
Multiplicar a violência e destruição a partir do momento em que chegaram? Passearem-se do alto da sua arrogância? Darem a fuga a Alfredo Reinado e mais meia-centena de reclusos?
Causarem um estado de sítio terrível em Same para encenarem a captura de Reinado e assassinarem uns quantos timorenses, apesar de estarem a fazer teatro? Fazerem explodir bombas e nem darem uma explicação?
Mas em que é que os militares australianos nos têm ajudado? Tem-se visto que em nada nos estão a ajudar, mas sabemos que estão a ajudar uns quantos timorenses…
Por nós, dispensamos tal “ajuda” ao quintal das traseiras.

Residents insist Australian troops assaulted guard

Dili, October 22: Residents of Dili's suburban Quintal Bot insist that Australian troops assaulted an East Timorese security guard outside a shop flying a Fretilin flag on Sunday, October 14.
The suburb is a recognised Fretilin stronghold.
In doing so, the residents have rejected the televised explanation offered by the Australian Commander Brigadier John Hutcheson last Wednesday that his troops, who arrived about 10.30pm, did so to separate two people who were fighting and that they did not assault security guard Abilio Fatima, 41.
The community has issued a statement signed by Fatima and others reiterating that the Australian troops were responsible for the assault and asking the East Timor parliament and the government to investigate.
They have already lodged a complaint with East Timor's Human Rights and Justice Ombudsman and the police.
The complaint is likely to give impetus to the view that the Australians - who are outside United Nations control - have overstayed since they arrived in mid-2006.
Fretilin, which holds the most seats in parliament, says the legislature's president Fernando Lasama Araujo has referred the complaint to a parliamentary committee.
Former deputy prime minister and agricultural minister, Fretilin MP Estanislau da Silva, says the time had come to re-evaluate the presence of Australian soldiers to ensure a sentiment of hostility that was building against the defence force did not "manifest itself in negative ways.
"We have to act to prevent this from occurring, as we have had a history of this occurring with occupying armies in the past," he says.
Fatima is employed by Maubere Security to protect a Social Security Ministry in Quntal Bot.
In his complaint to the police, he alleges that he was on duty, talking to some neighbours, when two Australian Defence Force vehicles arrived, with about 12 soldiers.
Six alighted and ordered both himself and the neighbours to disperse and go indoors.
Fatima says that he explained through a Tetum-language interpreter attached to the soldiers that he was on duty, that regular police patrols never ordered him to leave his post, and asked why the soldiers were so concerned with ordinary civilians like him instead of with cases like Alfredo Reinado, the rebel soldier, and his armed group.
Fatima alleged that after he mentioned Reinado he was immediately struck with rifle butts many times in the head, upper arms and back, and then bitten on the right upper arm by a soldiers' guard dog.
Two of his neighbours were also assaulted and fled to their homes, but Fatima stayed at his post.
MPs, who have supported a call for an inquiry into the allegations, include non-Fretilin representatives.
CNRT MP Cecilio Caminha called for transparency in dealing with any allegations of abuse of power by the Australian Defence Force and Fretilin MP Jose Teixeira called for the Australian military force to come under the UN command, to make it more accountable.
Fretilin MP Francisco Branco argued that even if the presence of the Australian Defence Forces in Timor-Leste was ultimately ratified by the National Parliament, the officers who ordered operations, such as when Australian troops shot dead Timorese at the Dili Airport, displaced persons camp or in the attack on the Alfredo group in Same, should be investigated for the legality of their actions.
