The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) is proud to announce the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the United Nations on Wednesday 24 October.
A number of events both within Dili and elsewhere in Timor-Leste have been organized under the theme of “Together, working for the future of Timor Leste”
The day will begin with the screening of the video message by the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, to UN staff and guests in Dili as well as at UNMIT’s regional offices in Oecussi, Maliana and Baucau.
At Dili’s Memorial Hall, UNMIT will hold an open house for the general public on 24 October between 10am and 5.30pm. The scheduled activities include an information fair featuring 10 UN agencies working in Timor-Leste, a UN film festival and a photo exhibit entitled “Daran Labilan: Towards a Bright Future”, which provides the opportunity for Timorese photographers to showcase their work.
In the spirit of international partnership, the International Centre for Journalists has co-sponsored the photo exhibit, providing the funds for the framing of the pictures. The Exhibit will be displayed at Memorial Hall until 30 November and will then tour the country starting in Baucau and moving to Maliana and Oecussi.
Representatives from the UN and its agencies will be on hand to explain their work in Timor-Leste as well as distribute information about the UN’s role in the country.
As part of the Film Festival, video and multi-media programmes produced by the UN and International NGOs such as Avocats Sans Frontières will be screened. Themes include the contribution by Timor-Leste to the UN, peacekeeping, justice, security and health. A film on this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections featuring interviews with President José Ramos-Horta and the Under Secretary-General, Jean Marie Guéhenno, will also be shown.
To celebrate UN day, a radio call-in quiz to raise awareness about the United Nations will be broadcast on national radio beginning today and will run through Friday.

O dia começará com a audição da mensagem vídeo pelo Secretário-Geral da ONU, Ban Ki-moon, para o pessoal da ONU e convidados em Dili bem como nos gabinetes regionais da UNMIT em Oecussi, Maliana e Baucau.
No Memorial Hall de Díli, a UNMIT realizará uma casa aberta para o público em geral em 24 Outubro entre as 10am e as 5.30pm. As actividades agendadas incluem uma feira de informação sobre as 10 agências da ONU a trabalhar em Timor-Leste, um festival de filmes da ONU e uma mostra fotográfica com o título “Daran Labilan: Para um futuro mais brilhante”, que dá oportunidade aos fotógrafos Timorenses de mostrarem o seu trabalho.
No espírito de parceria internacional, o Centro Internacional para Jornalista co-patrocinou a mostra fotográfica, dando financiamento para o emoldurar das fotografias. A Mostra ficará no Memorial Hall até 30 Novembro e irá pelo país começando em Baucau e depois para Maliana e Oecussi.
Estarão presentes representantes da ONU e das suas agências para explicar o seu trabalho em Timor-Leste bem como para distribuir informação acerca da ONU e do seu papel no país.
Como parte do Festival de Filmes serão exibidos, programas vídeo e multi-media produzidos pela ONU e por ONG’s Internacionais tais como Advogados Sem Fronteiras. Os temas incluem a contribuição para a ONU de Timor-Leste, manutenção da paz, justiça, segurança e saúde. Será também mostrado um filme sobre as eleições presidenciais e legislativas deste ano com entrevistas com o Presidente José Ramos-Horta e o Sub-Secretário-Geral, Jean Marie Guéhenno.
Para comemorar o dia da ONU, será emitido um concurso na rádio nacional com perguntas para elevar os conhecimentos acerca das Nações Unidas a começar hoje e que correrá até Sexta-feira.
