Qatar: ASPIRE ’93 Reach the Final of International Tournament

MENAFN Press -22/12/2008

ASPIRE Came Second to Eastern Timor

ASPIRE ’93 came second to Eastern Timor in the final of the International Challenge Under 15’s which was played in Singapore earlier this month, after losing 2-0 in the final.

Nine teams participated in the competition which was split into two groups, with Thailand absent. The first group included ASPIRE ’93, Singapore ‘B’, Eastern Timor and the South Africa Academy. The second group included Singapore ‘A’, the Soccer Academy of Japan, Malaysia Academy, New Zealand Academy, and Australia Academy.

On the route to the final ASPIRE ’93 beat Singapore ‘B’ 12-0, then drew 0-0 with Eastern Timor and in the third group game they recorded a huge win, beating South Africa 5-0.

In the semi-final ASPIRE ’93 beat Singapore ‘A’ to set-up the final match with Eastern Timor who beat the Soccer Academy of Japan. The young ASPIRE side lost 2-0 in the final in rainy, hot and humid conditions, which affected their performance.

ASPIRE ’93 picked up many prizes for their performance during the Championship. Muhannad Naeem won the best goalkeeper award, while his colleague Ahmad Alaa collected the best player in the Championship trophy. Alaa also came joint-second in the top goal-scoring charts with his team mate Faisal Aadel. Both players scored four time, just one behind an Eastern Timor striker.

Speaking about the prizes as best player and best goalkeeper, Ahmad Alaa and Muhannad Naeem said: “We are very happy about the selection, which reflects the level of the whole ASPIRE ’93 team and shows the serious hard-work and training which we have received at the Academy. We promise to continue to do our best in the coming foreign participation to give ASPIRE the image and position it deserves.”

"Apesar de frágil, Timor-Leste é uma jovem democracia em que acreditamos. É o país que escolhemos para viver e trabalhar. Desde dia 28 de Abril muito se tem dito sobre a situação em Timor-Leste. Boatos, rumores, alertas, declarações de países estrangeiros, inocentes ou não, têm servido para transmitir um clima de conflito e insegurança que não corresponde ao que vivemos. Vamos tentar transmitir o que se passa aqui. Não o que ouvimos dizer... "
