TEMPO Interactive, Kupang: Refugees of East Timor who are living in the East Nusa Tenggara region have demonstrated at the Regional House of Representatives to demand compensation as the government promised.
The assets include homes and plots in East Timor, now Timor Leste—after the1999 referendum. People have also urged that the government be transparent in managing funds of Rp72 billion for the housing of 5,000 refugees' families.
These refugees have considered themselves as victims of Indonesia's political policy, which was disavowed in evacuating refugees of East Timor.
“Up to now, we are still inhabiting the emergency huts. We sleep on the ground and we eat whatever food we found. We are neglected. All relief aid is stopped,” said Sartino da Silva, one of the refugees that settled in the Noelbaki Village, Kupang Regency.

AS propriedades incluem casas e terrenos em Timor-Leste, depois do referendo de 1999. As pessoas pediram também ao governo para ser transparente na gestão de fundos de Rp72 biliões para albergar 5,000 famílias refugiadas.
Esses refugiados consideram-se eles próprios vítimas da política Indonésia, que foi condenada na evacuação de refugiados de Timor-Leste.
“Até agora, estamos ainda a viver nas cabanas de emergência. Dormimos no chão e comemos qualquer comida que encontramos. Negligenciaram-nos. Toda a ajuda de auxílio parou,” disse Sartino da Silva, um dos refugiados que se fixou na Aldeia Noelbaki, na regência de Kupang.

This is such a contrast to us foreigners. The Government of the RDTL and its treatment of the IDPs is such a positive stark contrast.
IDPs are eligible to so much if they return home under the RDTL governments plan....new house, business loans, and furnishings lost etc.
Why doesnt someone write something positive about this? I have worked in Sudan and Angola, and have yet to see a government which is moving so much and acting so much to try and alliviate the suffering of its people whilst respecting their human rights.

The crisis in Sudan and Timor Leste are two different thing. In Sudan, one argue that the governments actually wants this people to be still in the refugee camps, because they are the supporter of the separatists movements. There have been plenty of efforts to supply food to the IDP in Sudan, however, it is the government itself with its arab militias who become the obstacles for both the peace process and food aid organisation to Darfur.
In Timor Leste, crisis is actually part the of the government problems. These has become victims in which the goverment has to be partly blamed due to its weak instutions in restraining law and order and providing safe and security to its own people. The government has full moral responsability to provide housing and some financial aids until these people are back on their feet.
The goverment was elected for the people, so, it is there to help this people and to bring back peace stability to the country, eventhough it is still bit long way to go.
