CHANGE OF COMMAND IN TIMOR-LESTE
The Command of the Joint Task Force operating in Timor-Leste has changed hands. Brigadier Mick Slater returned to Australia on Thursday 26 October, after handing command to Brigadier Mal Rerden.
The Chief of Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston praised the efforts of Brigadier Slater.
“Brigadier Slater deployed into Timor-Leste with the lead troops in May this year. His leadership of the Joint Task Force was outstanding. His skilful management of the complex situation that faced our personnel has been instrumental in helping Timor-Leste find the path to peace and stability and provide real hope for the future of this young nation.
“Brigadier Slater is an outstanding officer who uses a no-nonsense command style. Australia can be proud of the contribution that he and the Joint Task Force that he led, have made.
“Clearly there will be continuing challenges in Timor-Leste. Brigadier Slater has now handed over command of the Joint Task Force to Brigadier Mal Rerden, who will build upon Brigadier Slater’s excellent work.
“The ADF will continue to support the people of Timor-Leste as a professional and neutral force.”

MUDANÇA DE COMANDO EM TIMOR-LESTE
O Comando da Joint Task Force a operar em Timor-Leste mudou de mãos. O Brigadeiro Mick Slater regressou para a Austrália na Quinta-feira 26 de Outubro, depois de entregar o comando ao Brigadeiro Mal Rerden.
O Chefe da Força de Defesa, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston louvou os esforços do Brigadeiro Slater.
“O Brigadeiro Slater foi destacado para Timor-Leste com as tropas que liderou em Maio deste ano. A sua liderança da Joint Task Force foi considerável. A sua gestão hábil da situação complexa que o nosso pessoal enfrentou tem sido instrumental a ajudar Timor-Leste a encontrar a via da paz e da estabilidade e a dar esperança real para o futuro desta jovem nação.
“O Brigadeiro Slater é um excelente oficial que usa um estilo de comando sem tontices. A Austrália pode orgulhar-se da contribuição que ele e a Joint Task Force que ele liderou, deram.
“Claramente haverá desafios que continuam Timor-Leste. O Brigadeiro Slater entregou agora o comando da Joint Task Force ao Brigadeiro Mal Rerden, que vai construir sobre o excelente trabalho do Brigadeiro Slater.
